Barely 40: Is Lighting Everything?

Stephanie is a forty-something free spirit who believes “older and wiser” doesn’t have to mean “boring and unadventurous.”

So ladies, what’s the verdict? When it’s “go time” do you keep the lights on or off?

I’m indifferent in this department. The only time it seems to matter is when I’m getting out of bed (with the lights off) and stub my damn toe.

We are misled by the way the media portrays romance in TV shows, movies, etc. Does this really happen every time you want to be intimate with your significant other? A dark dimly lit room with candles and rose petals? Why isn’t this happening to me? Sure, you pull out all the stops for Valentine’s Day or your anniversary, but not for your average Tuesday night romp.

So let’s discuss lights on or off.

Lights on: not much left to the imagination. You’re both there in all of your glory. Here I am, and take a look at this lingerie I just got for you tiger! If you haven’t already, you should give it a try! Next time he goes to flip them off, tell him to leave them on, in your sultry voice.

Lights off: the more common and popular preference for sexy time. Odds are you’re probably already in bed and one or both of you take some initiative. You’re not going to stop in the middle and say, “Wait, let me turn the lights on!” Talk about a mood killer! Plus if the lights are off, your imagination can take you somewhere outside of your unmade bed.

Or if you’re like me, your romance usually takes place by the dim, romantic light, coming from your television.

I dare you to do the opposite of your norm and see what happens. You never know, you may just like it.
