Barely 40: The Numbers Game

Bra Sizing
Stephanie is a forty-something free spirit who believes “older and wiser” doesn’t have to mean “boring and unadventurous.”

Why are we obsessed with numbers? More specifically, why are we obsessed with numbers relating to size? Pant size? Dress size? Bra size? It’s JUST A NUMBER.

Let’s take jeans as an example. No two pairs are alike. In my jean drawer I have four different pairs: a size 10, two pairs of 8’s, and a size 6 (someday I’ll get into!).

Now let’s talk bras. Like jeans, no two bras are alike. However, with bras not only do you have to worry about the cup size, but the band size as well. So now we throw letters into the mix with numbers! In my experience, when I buy lacy bras, I know I have to go up a size in the band (the number) because they fit a little tighter around. If I decide to go with a demi bra, I know I have to go up a size in the cup (the letter). I stay pretty consistent in the cup and band size with a standard cotton bra.

I have about 15 different bras and they are all different sizes. As long they fit properly and make me look fantastic, I don’t care what the number says!

So ladies, the next time you go for a “fitting,” don’t concentrate on the number. The only thing that matters is the “WOW” factor.
