Confessions Of A Curvy Girl: Fall Break Faux Pas

It hasn’t been that long since pool season ended and I’m already diving headlong into the depths of swimsuit regret. It’s November.

Recently, we decided to take a spur of the moment fall break trip to the beach. We lucked out, found a great place and packed our bags. Three days later we are on the beach and it was marvelous—white powdery sand, blue skies, a light breeze and very few people. Heaven.

We quickly unpacked and it was then that I realized I brought only one swimsuit—an old one I bought a few years ago. It not only had seen better days, but it had a very significant run down one side of the tankini. I don’t even know why I still had it!

I decided the heck with it. I would wear it anyway and hope no one noticed. For a while, no one did and we sat on the beach doing exactly what we all wanted. I read, my husband slept and my kids played in the water and looked for shells. Before we left that first day, my youngest took a photo of my husband and me. It really turned out well and the background was frameworthy. What didn’t belong in the picture was the giant run down the side of my swimsuit. There was no explaining that away as a glare, odd lighting or a smudge of sand. It was a hole and it ruined our perfect picture.

After dinner that night, we made a side trip on our way back to the hotel and I bought what is pretty much the cheapest swimsuit I have ever owned from a big box store that literally had two to choose from. That’s what I get for packing so quickly.

Actually, that’s what I get for never throwing anything away. I need to practice what I preach. You should own one great pair of shoes, one good purse, one good professional outfit, one good set of lingerie and one good swimsuit. Case closed.

Here is a great selection of tankinis that, if I had been thinking clearly at the time, I could have stocked up on. I currently have this Ralph Lauren Swim Top in my shopping cart.
