The sun is warm and we want to get out in it. Whether you are a sun lover or not, one thing’s for sure: winter was hard and we need to do a little maintenance before we let our skin see the light of day!

The products that made us soft and smooth in the cold, winter months are not the same ones we want to use in the summer. Heavy creams are ok in the winter. In the summer we are contending with heat and humidity, so a lighter, oil-free moisturizer is more appropriate. Look for one with added SPF protection.

When it comes to your face, look for more water based cleansers and moisturizers. This is another place to add on the benefits of a SPF moisturizer before you head out the door to protect from the aging effects of the sun. I keep a travel-sized sunscreen in my purse just in case I ever need to touch up throughout the day. I don’t want to take any chances with my face!

Give your body a light exfoliation a few times a week and before shaving. This helps to keep skin smooth and free of dead skin build-up. One of my favorites is a dry salt scrub. There are also great products that contain glycolic acid which aids in removing dead skin cells without excess scrubbing (a little scrubbing goes a long way).

Lastly, be sure to drink plenty of water. This seems pretty simple but sometimes you need to do this on purpose. Plus, it is the best way to keep your hair, skin and nails hydrated and refreshed. Pretty simple, huh?
