Confessions Of A Curvy Girl: Toned Up

Confessions Of A Curvy Girl
Now that we are hanging up our sweaters for the year, it is time to bust out those sleeveless shirts and sun dresses! If you are like me you might not be ready to bare those guns. If only I had arms like Michelle Obama…but I don’t.

Here are a few moves I have been using to get my arms in a bit better shape than they were in January. I didn’t invest in heavy weights that will clutter my house, but if you have them, then certainly use them. Before you know it you will be sleeveless for summer!

Of course, I’m not a fitness expert and you should always consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program.

Using a 5 pound weight (or manageable weight of your choice) bend at the waist. Drop your arms straight down then bring your elbows up in a right angle–this is a row. A row done while bending over. Do this while keeping your back straight, not curving your shoulders and contracting your back muscles when you bring your arms up. Do 12 reps of this, 3 times.

Do any kind of chest fly whether while laying on the floor or using a weight bench. Keep your arms open and bring them in like you are hugging a tree. Use as much weight as you can manage. Do 12 reps of this, 3 times.

And my favorite, probably because it targets my wobble area, is the overhead extension. Using 1 weight or like item, raise your arms above your head, both hands holding the weight. Bend your elbows and bring the weight down (don’t hit your head). Do 12 reps of this, 3 times.

You can’t beat good old push ups and planks. It may seem simple but they are effective for a reason. These are just a few ways to add a bit of tone to your arms so you can enjoy tops like this one from
