Earlier this year, plus-size lingerie model Elly Mayday made a bold statement for both the lingerie industry and ovarian cancer. At the young age of 25 and in the height of her career, Mayday was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She underwent months of chemotherapy and a hysterectomy, according to NY Daily News.

Instead of shying away from the camera, Mayday posed with her chemo-induced baldhead and hot lingerie. And her fans loved it.

“Not everyone in the industry is going to want to work with a person that’s scarred, that has a scarred stomach,” she told CTV. “But I have a good story, and I’m trying to start something.”

However, the significant scarring and hair loss didn’t stop her from modeling, even beyond her initial awareness photos. She started modeling as a plus-size model, a title she’s not very fond of, to help women of all sizes feel good about how they look. Now, with scars and hair loss, she gets to carry that same message to women fighting ovarian cancer.

“This gives meaning to it, maybe there is a reason why these things happened to me so I could be and advocate for this disease,” Mayday told the Herald Sun in Melbourne, Australia.

HerRoom offers an assortment of lingerie for full-figured women and provides tools to help women of all sizes find the best fitting bras and pantie for their shape and size.
