Holiday Trend Report: Leopard Print

The holidays are my absolute favorite time of the year — decorating my home, spending time with friends and family, wrapping presents, watching It’s a Wonderful Life for the umpteenth time. Nevertheless, it’s hard to be festive when you have last-minute gift shopping hanging over your head.

Let’s face it. There are some women who are harder to shop for than others. But instead of wandering around a mall waiting for inspiration to strike, I let fashion trends be my muse.

Leopard prints seem to be a perennial runway favorite — and this season was no exception. Designers everywhere took a walk on the wild side, providing this classic pattern with permanent residence on best-dressed lists. I travel a lot and love seeing the way women across the country (and the world) have interpreted this trend.

Whether worn head to toe or just as an accent, it looks great on everyone. Leading ladies throughout cinematic history prove my point. Who can forget Marilyn Monroe’s matching cape and muff in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes or Mrs. Robinson’s bra and half-slip in The Graduate?

Naturally, this pattern has found its way into the intimate apparel world, making it an of-the-moment gift idea (it’s no coincidence that three of the choices in my Guide to Gifting feature leopard print!)

But don’t forget about yourself this season. Leopard print lingerie is a great way to add some spice to your favorite little black dress, even if you’re the only one who knows it’s there. It’s a subtly sexy way of giving your holiday wardrobe an instant boost.
