How a Bra's Center Panel (or Gore) Should Fit - HerRoom

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ A bra's center panel, or center gore, is a crucial component in overall fit. Let HerRoom help you find out if yours is doing its job. Watch it again! http://www.herroom.com/bra-underwires-panels-straps,941,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "How a Bra's Center Panel (or Gore) Should Fit" What holds the two bra cups together in the center is called a center panel or center gore. And the way this center panel sits, and how it’s shaped can tell you a lot about your bra. The center panel should rest firmly against your sternum. If it doesn’t, your bra cups are not deep enough so you need to go up a cup size. If your center panel is significantly pulling away from your sternum, you probably need to go up several cup sizes and down a band size. The exception to this rule is if your bra is a minimizer or a wire-free bra. These styles many times will not rest on your sternum. Most center panels come up to the horizontal apex line of a bra. The underwire tips are about 1” apart, and the shape is somewhat triangle. However, there are other center panel variations out there, and you should understand which ones are best for you. At HerRoom.com, we help by showing you a straight-on view of every bra along with a measured overlay. There are bras with narrow center panels where the ends of the wires touch. For women with close-set breasts, this is a great design – they don’t’ need to try and finagle a center panel between their breasts. However, for women with wide set breasts, this is not optimal because the cups are set too close together. Tall center panels where the height is taller than the apex line of a bra give great support – It’s a great choice for women with pendulous breasts or shallow breasts that are no longer firm. And most sports bras have a tall center panel because it helps contain breasts and prevents vertical bounce. Bras with low center panels are commonly called plunge bras. This style is great for low necklines, but it is also a great choice for petite and short-waisted women because this smaller center panel also creates a more pared down bra style. An arched center panel has an arched bottom edge. This gives a bra a lighter look, and can be a great solution for women with a high tummy that can come up between their breasts. A wide Triangle shaped center panel is great for breasts that tend to fall east and west and for women with wide-set breasts – if the distance between your breasts is more than 2 fingers, you have wide set breasts. This center panel is obviously not a good choice for women with close-set breasts. Front closure bras, because of the closure, tend to also be wide center panels - again, a great choice for women with wider set breasts because they move the cups more outward. The next time you shop for a bra, pay close attention to those center panels. Knowing which ones work best for you will help you optimize your bra fit.

Minimizer Bras 101

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ What is a minimizer bra? What does a minimizer bra do? Do I need a minimizer bra? This video provides answers to these commonly asked questions. VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: What is a minimizer bra? What does a minimizer bra do? Do I need a minimizer bra? These are some of the questions, my team and I are frequently asked. The name is a little misleading; a minimizer bra does not actually reduce your breast size or bra size – you can never get rid of or reduce your breast tissue volume. Instead, it can very effectively reduce your breast projection and thus your chest circumference by flattening your breasts and giving them a wider base to spread out your breast tissue in all directions – up, down, left and right. This is achieved primarily with a wider and higher "under the arms" underwire shape. Reducing your breast projection with a minimizer helps reduce and even eliminate that pulled look on a button-down blouse. It can also eliminate that horizontal pull line on a form-fitting top. A minimizer bra can have seams in the cups or be seamless. They also come with and without underwires. But, a minimizer bra does not have padding because women who want a minimizer do not want to add any size to their bustline. If you want modesty with a minimizer, you will need to also wear a pair of nipple covers, or select a minimizer with seams in the cups, and then line up your apex so it rests on a seam. A minimizer is also the one bra style where the center panel does not need to rest against your sternum to have a proper fit. Additionally, a minimizer is not able to minimize a breast that has an implant. Minimizers come in a fairly narrow size range. They usually start around a C cup size and stop around a D5 cup size. This is because larger breasts really cannot be effectively minimized in their projection. Their vast breast tissue could fold “skin on skin” and thus create an area that holds moisture and be uncomfortable – especially in the underarm area and along the bottom of a bra’s cups. Instead, most women larger than an D5 cup size would prefer their breast tissue to be positioned up and forward to give the appearance of a smaller waistline. What size minimizer bra should you buy? The answer is your normal bra size. The manufacturers have already designed-in the minimizing effects, so no size change is needed.

Plus Size Bra Fitting - HerRoom

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ Finding the right plus size bra can be a challenge. Am I a DD? Or an F cup? If you've ever wondered, Universal Cup Size by HerRoom can help. Watch it again at: http://www.herroom.com/full-figure-bra-cup-sizing,905,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "Bra Fitting Secrets: Plus Size Bra Fitting" Women with bra cup sizes larger than a D have an added layer of difficulty when purchasing bras. Depending on the manufacturer, their cup size may be called different letters. They may go looking for their cup size, not find it, and therefore think the bra doesn’t come in their size. Well, it probably does. There are three general naming conventions for cup sizes larger than D. For example, let’s look at cup size triple D, depending on the brand, it can also be called an F cup or an E cup. If you’re an H in one brand, your H could be 3 cup sizes off in another brand. So, now you get a taste why larger cup-sized women can get so frustrated trying to find the right size. At HerRoom, we’ve solved this problem with our Trademarked “Universal Cup sizing system” – we call it UCS for short. It uses a simple D system – D1, D2, D3, etc. to help you find your cup size regardless of maker. Any brand, any bra, every time. Our UCS system shows up in parenthesis on all our bra size drop downs at HerRoom. So, say you are a 36F in the Brand Chantelle. Right next to your Bra size is your Universal cup size D3. Now, when you go any bra brand at HerRoom, simply look for “D3” next to a 36 and you’re guaranteed to get the right cup size. And, you can search on your UCS size in our search window. It will pull up all your bra options rather than those with just a specific letter. By the way, you’ll find a sizing chart with size comparisons for every bra on HerRoom.com So fear not. You really do have lots of beautiful bra options in your size. And at HerRoom, all you have to know is your Universal Cup Size to quickly find them.

Sister Bra Sizes - HerRoom

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ Different company's bras might fit differently; but knowing your sister bra size can help you find the right fit, every time. HerRoom shows you how. Watch it again! http://www.herroom.com/bra-fitting-advice,328,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "Bra Fitting Secrets: Your Sister Bra Size" Every bra size has a set of sister bra sizes – those sizes that surround a bra size and vary only slightly. It’s good to know what they are and how they differ because, when you feel it’s time for a bra size change, you can quickly figure out which new bra size you need to try. So let me show you sister sizing and how it works. For this example, I’ll use the bra size 36C. Moving vertically will simply change your cup size while leaving your band size the same. Want a bigger cup? Move down to a 36D. Want a smaller cup? Move up to a 36B. If you just want to increase your band size, going diagonally will change your band size while keeping your cup size the same. Now this probably doesn’t seem right. Most women think moving from a 36C to a 38C, horizontally, would be the answer. But in bra sizing, when you go up a band size, you need to go down a cup size if you want to maintain the same cup volume. So, a 38B will keep your cup volume the same while giving you a bigger band, and a 34D will keep your cup volume the same while giving you a smaller band. Moving horizontally changes both your band size and your cup size. As I explained earlier, when you go up a band size, you need to go down a cup size to maintain your same cup volume. So, moving from a 36C to a 38C gives you both a band and cup increase. Moving from a 36C to a 34C decreases both your band and cup size. Understanding your sister sizes and knowing which ones to choose when your body changes, pretty much guarantees you’ll stay in the correct bra size throughout your life.

Mastering the Cup Size Game - HerRoom

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ All D cup bras are the same, right? Wrong. Changing band sizes mean the cups change too. HerRoom shows you how to make sense of the cup size game. Watch it again at: http://www.herroom.com/bra-cup-design-and-size-manufacturing,910,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "Bra Fitting Secrets: How To Minimize Bra Back Fat" “Back fat.” It’s those bulges of flesh that are created around the edges of a bra. The softer your flesh, the more pronounced they become. The solution is to have more coverage and avoid “thin” straps and bands. Thin anything on your bra is not your friend if you’re trying to avoid bra lines and bulges. Some make the mistake of going up a band size to try and reduce their back fat. When your bra band is too loose, it creeps up your back, pushing your back tissue upwards thus creating a more prominent back bulge. A loose band also compromises your fit. A properly snug bra band is always best. It grabs you at your narrowest part and will reduce the upward creeping, which contributes to back bulges. Wearing a shaping camisole over your bra will greatly reduce bulges while giving you an overall smooth look under form-fitting clothing. Taller bra wings spread out the pressure over a greater surface area to cut down on bulges under your arms and along your back. A Leotard back (also called “U” back) creates a pretty back line while reducing bulges with its curved shape. Usually, the straps are attached closer together and at an angle. This design allows for wider sides to then be paired down in the center. Thus, less of a harness look along with the added benefit of less strap slippage. But, note that not all leotard backs are the same. A wide leotard back like this will do little to reduce bulging and keep your straps on your shoulders. Racerback (also called t-back and y back) bras are also an option to reduce back fat. Their back panel covers a greater area and reduces bulging. They’re also a great choice under sleeveless blouses to hide bra straps. If you want to reduce back bulges, take a minute to size up your bra’s back. Make sure it has the right feature to give you a smoother look.

Watch it again at: http://www.herroom.com/bra-fitting-advice,319,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "Bra Fitting Secrets: How To Put On A Bra" You’ve put your bra on, but have you adjusted your breast tissue? Every woman who’s a B cup size or larger needs to do this. The left side shows our model with no adjustment. The right side shows the difference a properly adjusted bra can make. Your bra will fit better, you’ll be more comfortable and you’ll look your best all day. Adjusting your breast is a quick way to ensure all your breast tissue gets into your bra, your apex lines up with the apex of your bra cup, and your upper breast tissue is optimized – especially if you’re wearing a push-up bra. The first method is to simply stoop forward, and jiggle your bra to make sure your breasts fall down into your cups. Before standing up, look to make sure your nipple is in the center of the cup, then stand up. The final step is smoothing - take your index fingers and run them along the inside top edges of your bra cups . This removes any minor double-breast effect. Proper alignment and adjustment are key to a providing a good fit, improving comfort and making your bustline look its best.

Why Are My Bra Straps Slipping? - HerRoom

Read more https://www.herroom.com/ Narrow shoulders? Is my bra the wrong size or just worn out? The truth about slipping bra straps may surprise you. Find the answer and the cure at HerRoom. Watch it again at: http://www.herroom.com/bra-strap-design-fit,914,30.html VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: "Bra Fitting Secrets: Why Are My Bra Straps Slipping?" In our HerRoom survey of over 400 thousand women, 52% claimed having narrow sloping shoulders. They think that’s causing their bra straps to slip. So what’s going on here? Well, the reality is that many of these women are in a band size that’s too big. So first, here’s a quick and simple test to see if your bra band is too big. Take your straps off your shoulders and see what happens. Too big, and the bra falls down and off. Just right, and the bra stays up. Bra straps should only slightly help support your breast weight – the bulk of your breast support should always come from your bra band. When your band is too big, the band first rides up your back. So, in the morning, when you put on this bra, if feels fine, but during the day it creeps up your back like this, your breasts start to sag, the straps loosen, and fall off your shoulders. This mannequin has on the same bra but in 2 different band sizes. See how the strap placement moves out towards the shoulders. But remember, when you go down a band size, you need to go up a cup size just to maintain your same cup volume. Now if you’re short or long- waisted, or are less than 5’4” or taller than 5’8”, you really need to look at a bra’s strap adjustability. Many bra straps only adjust in the back like this. This obviously reduces the amount of adjustability. Instead look for straps with full adjustability both in the back and front. For those of you with sloping shoulders, how the straps are attached to the bra is key. At HerRoom, we show you strap placement for every bra. Here is a balconette bra. See how much further out the straps are located? Bras with center pull straps are a great choice for sloping shoulders. A center pull strap is sewn closer to the center of the cup, and less toward the shoulder. A center pull strap is sewn closer to the center of the cup and less towards the shoulders. Women with sloping shoulders can wear a balconette bra or other wide-set strap bras as long as the straps are “kicked in.” See how close the straps come together in back on this balconette bra? This is what I mean by “kicked in.” Having the straps angled instead of coming straight down does a great job of keeping bra straps on your shoulders. Bras with a leotard back design, also called a U back, can also help keep straps on your shoulders. Here’s a traditional or camisole bra back next to a leotard back. The circular nature of a leotard back pulls the straps more towards the center to help keep your straps on your shoulders. But, beware; not all bras claiming to have a leotard back do this. Here’s an example of a wide leotard back bra with straps set widely apart. This would do little to help keep your bra straps up on your shoulders. Of course, Racerbacks t-backs v-back and other special bra backs will be a great solution for keeping straps on your shoulders. And now, many manufacturers are including what’s called a j-hook on the back of bra straps that easily allow you to pull your straps closer together. So you can see, if your bra straps keep slipping, you can remedy this by either finding your correct bra size, or selecting a bra with the right features.
